Meditation – Grounding

As March winds usher in spring, it is a good time for us to work in tandem with the energies of treenature to bring about balance in our life.  On a spiritual level, we can soar higher IF we are grounded in the physical world.  As much fun as we can have giving our intuition free reign during meditation, it is only through groundedness that we can safely reach greater heights in the mental, emotional, spiritual and psychic arenas.  Just as the tree, firmly rooted in Mother Earth can bend and sway with the wind and remain balanced and healthy, so we must practice being grounded to balance our our other energies. Likewise, just as the tree without a strong root system is uprooted by the winds, so we can become “unplugged” if we are not grounded.

Try this short meditation any time you find yourself:

  • stuck in your mental, emotional or spiritual realms
  • unable to concentrate
  • feeling highly emotional rather than neutral

When you are soaring to new heights with spiritual or intuitive endeavors -ground yourself. Start and end your day this way, every day!

Meditation – Grounding

Position: Sitting, feet flat on the floor, legs and arms uncrossed

Time:  5-10 minutes

Steps:

  1. Breath in through your nose, filling your belly with fresh air, out through your mouth; 3 times.
  2. Listen to the sounds in the room. What do you hear?
  3. Notice your back resting against the chair.  Feel your arms and legs where they are touching.
  4. Inventory areas of your body that feel tense or has pain, noticing and letting these go.
  5. Picturing in your mind the fresh green grass of a lawn, how does it smell?  See your bare feet and toes among the blades of grass.  How does it feel?
  6. Picture your feet sinking down into the earthy, aromatic soil beneath the grass, and feel the cool dirt between your toes.
  7. Imagine an invisible cord extending down from your perineum (between your legs) and into the earth. The cord has a heavy anchor attached to its end.
  8. Give this cord freedom to travel down, down, down as far into the earth’s core as you can.
  9. When the cord has come to rest, firmly tethering you in Mother Earth, allow your breath to return you to the room.
  10. Enjoy your new contentedness to your world!
